Well, today was a good & bad day.
I got up & neither of my (house) phones wanted to work! (Mom called) So I went outside to call her back.
Shortly after that, my phone rang & it was one of the rehab gals I "work" with - she wanted to know if I could pick up a baby bird - So I did.
Turned out to be a baby robin (PROTECTED BY FEDERAL LAWS). The place (in Kingston) called me & I told them I would be up to get it shortly. I did not have baby bird food & I wasn't ready to go out. . so I had to get ready . . . I got almost to Kingston & called them back to let them know I was coming but had to stop at petsmart first - WAYYYY too hot to stop after I got the bird. . .
This bird fell out of his nest - a day or so too early - not quite ready to be a fledgling.
So at Petsmart we got a special bird formula & then headed off to get the bird - TOOOOO hot to go after getting it. (get it was VERY hot?? LOL) They had brought the bird into the air conditioned building. . well, it may have contributed (Or not) to his demise;(
I got the bird (with a $10 donation! First of the year!) & headed home.
I got home came inside, made bird formula, sat down & tried to feed it. Bird did not want to eat. So I called the rehabber gal & was like HELP me!
I told her I would try a bit longer & if I couldn't, I would come see her if that was ok with her. She said she would love for me to come visit. So, bird & I headed off to her house. Bird died @ 10 mins after leaving our house;( I guess it got too hot. . . or something. I have no idea. He wasn't in good hsape when I got him.
I did have a wonderful visit with her though! It was great to get out & see someone!
I got to cuddle baby opossums!! AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW:) They are soooo dang cute!! Those baby possies sure wanted to eat! LOL They kept nibbling my fingers!!! I also got to love a baby skunk!! OMG I LOVED it;))) I got to see 3 older baby robins (getting ready to be released VERY soon) & 1 grackle, and 2 younger robins, a barn swallow & a finch! AWWW I got to see their (birds) feeding (several times - they eat every hour now! - was every 1/2 hr!) It was very awesome to visit her;)
2 other rehabber gals (I also met & "work" with) called while I was there & I spoke with them:) I told the one that I was wanting to help - she told me they are swamped! I told her tell me what you need me to do:) That one has been rehabbing 30+yrs! She said we will all get together soon & "conference" at the diner;) I told her ok, just let me know when:)
Oh geesh! On the way home *I* hit a bird! Dang thing flew right across in front of me. I could see it sitting in the middle of the road & so I turned around to get it. Well, I went back by & pulled off in the driveway JUST past it to turn around. As I went by I checked it & it was sitting there looking around, so she probably just got stunned. I turned around & was heading to pull off & 1 of the 3 cars behind me RAN it over!! I didn't see it - it happened while I turned around - but it was intentional - it was closer to the opposite side of the road - in the white lines - they had no reason to hit her:*****( A**es!
I got home & Dariyn was like overheated! She was red & sweating & threw up! So I called her dr. They told me to put her in the shower & get her to drink fluids. She felt a lot better after her shower & looks better too.
ugh . . . I am tired!! And HOT!!

Stuff. . . .
UGH!!! So I have TRIED to post this blog TWICE on myspace & keep getting stupid error messages! I have been dealing with that crap for like 2 weeks or more, so I am DONE! I am not blogging there anymore! (blog before today is at: http://www.myspace.com/flynhy )
Kymberlee & Dariyn "graduated" from 4th grade on Wed, June 20th, 2007! So, in the fall they will be entering 5th grade AND the middle school!!
Then! I had a tragedy today!! And that really sucked & made me mad, upset, etc! My goose baby (@ 7wks) died today! Just DIED! For now reason, . . . well I know there probably is a REASON. . . I just don't KNOW it!! :( He has been doing fine! Eating fine, drinking fine, moving around, outside everyday recently :( So I dunno what the reason is:( The older guy (they were in seperate cages when the younger guy was outside) is still doing ok. . . so it seems anyhow!
I have raised many ducks & geese (domestics though) & have not had this happen!
The next thing is, I am going to apply for federal licensing (bird rehab) come Jan-ish! Part of the requirement for this is you HAVE to have a vet & they HAVE to write a letter stting they will work with you & see you when you need. . . So, I KNEW the vet I was going to ask, and did! He agreed he would, in exchange for helping him too, and taking birds he gets in to the office:) LOL OF COURSE I will help!:) I told him I would help with others too if he needed! So, I have to take good photos of caging & they will have to be submitted with my application. I do have a few different bird cages (of various sizes) that I am going to clean up real well over the summer. They can be used for initial intake or for smaller birds in general. So I will just need to work on caging for larger birds & pre-release pens.
I am also working on finishing up the requirements for my RVS license. I need to get a couple cages built & inspected before fall is over.
SOOOOOOOO Anyone out there with any cages, cage materials, etc they don't need, or would like to donate, PRETTY PLEASE contact me??? :)
(You can check out my website at: http://www.cjcrittercareneducation.org/ )
Um. . . what else?
I have to call SUNY Cobleskill tomorrow to set up my schedule for fall.
Laters,
Tara
